Two new clinicians have joined the staff of Great Bay Mental Health at Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth, NH.
Barbara Bowlus, Ph.D. is a New Hampshire Licensed Psychologist with 23 years of experience in community mental health, private practice, and both county and state departments of corrections. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy and in interpersonal psychotherapy. Dr. Bowlus’ work with patients will include issues related to life transitions such as leaving home as a young adult, marriage, birth of a child, divorce, caretaking of elderly parents, and aging. She has a particular interest in women’s issues, assertive communication, conflict resolution, and grief. Dr. Bowlus co-founded and served as executive director of a forensic psychology practice in Salem, NH and serves as a volunteer in the Office of Victim Services for the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.
Pilar Van Patten, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in treating children, adolescents, and families dealing with an array of mental health issues and life stressors such as depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and oppositional defiance. Practicing from a solution focused and structural approach, Van Patten focuses on personal growth, awareness, healing, and often times, laughter. She holds a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University New England.
