Goodwin Community Health is pleased to announce that Gregory Fredette, DMD has joined the staff of Goodwin’s Dental Center. Additionally, the Dental Center has been awarded funding to boost reach and efficiency of community-focused dental programs. As a result of several new grants and the addition of Dr. Fredette, the Dental Center aims to increase services to the public, especially children in the greater Strafford County area.
New funding includes the award of $4,976 from the American Dental Association Foundation Samuel D. Harris Fund for Children’s Dental Health. This grant allows Goodwin Community Health to conduct a new program offering prenatal and postnatal oral health education along with coordination of a child’s first dental appointment. The program will reach the parents or caregivers of almost 200 children, birth to age 5 through the Women, Infant & Children (WIC) clinics in both Strafford and Carroll Counties. This innovative project will provide software-based Oral Health Patient Education in a pilot effort to provide specific, directed lessons on dealing with the prevention of early childhood dental disease. This training will be provided both in-person and by reaching parents/caregivers remotely when necessary using the software.
Additionally, Goodwin Community Health recently received funding from the American Dental Association Foundation ‘Give Kids A Smile’ Program, the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation and the Cogswell Benevolent Trust to purchase and install Dentrix Enterprise software in the dental practice. Dentrix Enterprise is a powerful, feature-rich management solution for community and public health centers designed to save time, money and improve patient care which also interfaces with the patient education software recently funded.
“We are very pleased to have been selected from among more than 90 worthy applicants to receive funding from the ADA Foundation’s Samuel Harris Fund, along with the funding from the Give Kids A Smile program, the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation and the Cogswell Benevolent Trust ” says Janet Atkins, Executive Director of Goodwin Community Health. “New staff and programming coupled with funding for better technology makes a big impact on helping us to keep pace with growing needs for access to dental care for disadvantaged kids and other vulnerable populations in our community.”
